4th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SKIBIKE FESTIVAL
Durango, CO –Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort has long been home to the newest trend in winter sports, skibikes. This year Purgatory will again host the International Skibike Festival February 22-26, bringing together some of the world’s best skibikers for a week of fun on the snow.
For the 4th annual festival, participants are expected from around the world including Mexico, Canada and Europe. Among those participants is Jacek Stalmach, four-time world champion and leader in the skibike community.
The week-long festival will include free gear demonstrations and lessons as well as competitions ranging from racing events to the popular and thrilling big air event. Prizes from participating skibike vendors will be up for grabs during the week’s competitions.
“Purgatory opened its doors to skibikers long before it became popular at other resorts,” says Roy Meiworm event organizer. “Their hospitality and excitement to grow the sport allows us to have this fun event and introduce skibiking to a wide range of people.”
Registration for the Skibike Festival is each day at the Ski and Snowboard School office in Purgatory Village. A valid skibike certification is required and can be obtained from the Ski and Snowboard School through a free lesson depending on instructor and equipment availability. Purgatory has 32 skibikes in their rental fleet. Skibike participants also receive special discounts on lodging, lift tickets and Snowmobile Adventures.
