Big Air Competition and Even Bigger Snow Base At Purgatory Mountain
Weekend events and great conditions in Southwest Colorado

Durango, CO -Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort continues to tout one of the deepest bases in Colorado with 80 inches at mid-mountain. Mother Nature began smiling on Purgatory early in the year with three storms that dumped nearly 10 feet of snow. She has been back on a regular basis, dropping 7 inches this week with more snow expected by Sunday.

Conditions are prime for this weekend's events, including the fan-favorite Big Air Competition on Saturday, February 5. Part of the 2005 Expression Sessions Series, the Big Air Competition will bring skiers and snowboarders from around the region to see who can throw the biggest tricks. Competition is open to athletes of all ages, mom or dad need to be present at registration for those under 18. Registration begins at 8:30 am in the Ski School Sales Center in Purgatory Village; and costs $15. Competition begins at 10:30 am in the Paradise Freestyle Arena, and helmets are required. The 2005 Expression Session's Series continues with the Halfpipe Competition on February 19, Southwest Slopestyle Championships March 12 and Jib Jam Competition on March 26.

Sunday, February 6 spend your morning learning how to conquer the slopes with free heels at the Ski School's Telefest Clinic. Specialized clinics help all levels of skiers from beginners to expert telemarkers. To register for the clinic call the Purgatory Ski School at 385-2149.

Spend Sunday afternoon soaking up the rays on the beach at Purgy's then move the party inside to watch the Super Bowl with $2 Coors Lights.
