NEW SNOW BLANKETS PURGATORY MOUNTAIN
More than a foot of snow falls during President's Day Weekend storm
Durango, CO - Mother Nature keeps smiling on Purgatory Mountain as the southwest Colorado resort celebrated President's Day Weekend with fresh snow. The storm moved in late Friday night dropping 6.5 inches before the lifts opened and snow continued to fall through the weekend. Monday morning the resort woke up to bluebird skies, a storm total of 15.5 inches and one of the deepest bases in Colorado with 94 inches mid-mountain.
Purgatory is having an epic season, with over 240 inches of snow fall so far, only 20 inches shy of the season average. Early in the year big storms dropped nearly seven feet of snow laying the foundation for a solid snow base, since then weekly storms have maintained the unbeatable skiing and riding conditions. A break is expected today with another storm moving into the San Juan Mountains late this evening and expected to drop snow on the resort for the remainder of the week.
Spring is shaping up to be an incredible time at Purgatory; combine the huge snow base and awesome slope conditions with a loaded events calendar and "fun in the sun" takes on a whole new meaning. This week Purgatory hosts the SkiBike America Festival, the largest gathering of skibikes in the country. February 23-27 skibikers from around the world will gather at Durango Mountain Resort for clinics, on-snow demos and competitions. Sunday, February 27 learn to ski the mountain with free heels or perfect your telemark turns during the Ski School's TeleFest Clinic. Coming up in March Purgatory has the Dave Spencer Ski Classic March 4 and 5 and the final two events in our Expression Sessions Series: the Southwest Slopestyle Competition on March 12 and the second Jib Jam on March 26. Check out www.durangomountainresort.com for a complete list of events and activities during March and April.
