PURGATORY OPENING DAY SET FOR DECEMBER 10th

Purgatory, CO - Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort will open for the 2005/06 winter season on Saturday, December 10th. Recent snowfall and optimal snowmaking output has set the resort up for a traditional front-side opening.

A cold trend has had crews making snow for continual 24-hour periods, building a solid base, complemented by several inches of natural snow over the weekend. Forecasts for this week include an upgraded winter weather outlook with 3-7 inches of snow possible tonight and another storm at week's end.

"We are excited to get the winter season going," said Hank Thiess, resort General Manager and COO. "With the cold temps and storms lined up out into the Pacific, we're looking forward to a quality opening."

The resort will celebrate its 40th Anniversary with free birthday cake on Purgy's beach and special giveaways. Opening day will also feature the Total Telemark Tour, a traveling festival to showcase and promote the sport of Free-Heel skiing. The all-day event includes free demos, lessons, and prize giveaways.

Opening day lift ticket prices and available terrain will be determined as the date approaches.

Benefit day, with $10 lift tickets and proceeds benefiting Trials 2000, has been rescheduled for Friday, December 16th. Pre-sale tickets are available at Albertson's, City Market and Nature's Oasis and are entered into a raffle for a Purgatory season pass and a trip to Kirkwood Mountain Resort in California. Season passes will not be valid on Benefit Day.
