PURGATORY UPGRADES FOR WINTER SEASON

Durango, CO - Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort is preparing for its 40th winter season and a few new changes are in store for the growing resort.

Capital improvements to the resort include the addition of 2 new Bombardier 350 Snowcats, which will help mountain crews reach their goal of grooming 90 percent of beginner terrain and 70 percent of intermediate terrain each night. The resort also upgraded Chair 8 with $70,000 in repairs including a new bull wheel shaft and gear box. Over the past three years the lift has received a new motor and drive, as well as this year's additions. In total, Purgatory spent $850,000 in capital expenses this summer upgrading and improving the resort.

The Children's Ski and Snowboard School received a facelift for the upcoming season. Purgatory joined forces with Snow Monsters, the official mascots of the US Ski and Snowboard Team, to create the first children's ski and snowboard school program of its kind in the country. The new school will include Powder Pigs and Blizzard Babies- day care and introduction to skiing for youngsters- The Snow Monsters Ski Camp and the Next X Snowboard Camp for skiers and boarders ages 4-12 years old.

The most noticeable changes occurred at the Columbine Beginner's Area. Ground was broken on the new Alpenglow Townhomes, ski-in ski-out units that feature 3-4 bedrooms, 2 car garages and stunning views of the Needles range. This development is part of the 25 year master plan for the resort which will include 5 new villages and updates to Purgatory Village, including a new grand lodge. With the development of the Alpenglow Townhomes, the Magic Carpet was moved to the base area, adjacent to lift, to allow for easier access for first time skiers. Finally, the resort created a new right-side trail option for skiers and boarders heading to the Columbine Area from the base area. This new access provides a gentler pitch for beginners.

Purgatory Village will see a few changes, with two new options for families. Ricardo's Cantina, Barbershop and Laundromat is a Mexican, family-fun restaurant with daily specials, Mariachi bands on Fridays and Piñatas every Saturday Morning. Fuzziwig's Candy Factory will serve hot drinks and candy for every sweet tooth in a new village location.
