PURGATORY SUMMER SEASON OPENS THIS FRIDAY
Daily resort activities and family events part of new Purgatory Village Summer

Durango, CO – Temperatures are warmer, the kids are out of school and mountain bikes and rafts are taking over the landscape. All signs point to the beginning of summer in Durango and the final link is Purgatory opening for the summer season this Friday, June 13th.  Daily activities including the Alpine Slide, Bungee Trampoline, Climbing Wall, Scenic Chairlift Rides, and 50 miles of world class Mountain Biking and Hiking trails will be open daily from 9 am to 5 pm through Labor Day Weekend.

Purgatory Village has been completely renovated in anticipation for the summer season and the new Purgatory Lodge opening later this fall; offering a whole new area for summer family fun. To celebrate the revitalization of the village Purgatory has created a new events calendar and added extra family friendly activities. This summer the resort will feature the Durango Mining Company, an opportunity for children and adults to mine for jewels and treasures that miners from yesteryear may have left behind. A full mining operation will be set up in the plaza and bags start as little as $5.

Also new this year are family fun celebrations and competitions. The resort will host two Summer Family Festivals featuring the Root BeerFest, family adventure day and live music in the plaza.  The summer calendar also boasts the return of the Music in the Mountains Classical Concert Series, an Uphill Mountain Bike Race, and a Fundraising Trail Run/Walk with family and athlete courses and proceeds benefiting a non-profit organization to be determined by the resort.   The San Juan Mountains Association will again host FREE Guided Nature hikes and once a month Hike with Llama treks including wine and cheese picnics.

The best way to explore the entire mountain is with the Total Adventure Ticket providing half or full day access to the resort most popular activities, including unlimited Alpine Slide and Scenic Chairlift/ Mountain Bike uplift Rides, plus 1 trip on the Climbing Wall and 1 jump on the Bungee Trampoline.
