Durango, CO – The hard work of Durango Mountain Resort’s mountain crews and a little help from mother nature will allow Purgatory Mountain to open for the 2008-09 winter season this weekend. On Saturday, December 6th, the resort will host the 16th annual Benefit Day with $15 lift tickets. All proceeds benefit the American Red Cross and the Durango Winter Sports Foundation. The resort will officially open for the season on Sunday, December 7th. Adult tickets will be $35, student/senior tickets will be $29, and kids tickets will be $21.
The resort will open with top-to-bottom skiing on Chair 1 (High speed 6 passenger lift). Beginner skiing will not be available during opening weekend.
Snowfall for the season is fifteen inches with snow expected in the forecast and chilly temperatures that are ideal for snowmaking. Additional terrain will open as conditions continue to improve.
Guest services will be operational including ski/ride school, rentals, and retail shops. In addition, mountain dining options including the new Purgy’s and Mountain Market and Deli will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Only Benefit Day tickets will be valid on December 6th. Benefit Day tickets are available from American Red Cross volunteers, DWSF athletes, both City Market Locations, Nature’s Oasis and at the Purgatory Village ticket office on Benefit Day. Season passes can be used beginning Sunday, December 6th.
