WEEKLY SNOWSTORM REPORT
Another storm hits Purgatory Mountain dumps a foot and a half

Durango, CO –   It’s definitely a pattern now, and there is no ignoring the fact that Mother Nature loves Purgatory Mountain; right on schedule she delivered another big storm for the San Juan Mountains.  So far 18 inches have accumulated at the resort and snow continues to fall, with another 1-3 inches forecasted for today.  Another storm is hot on the heels of this current system with snow expected to start falling Sunday afternoon and forecasts calling for an additional foot of accumulation Sunday night and snow through Tuesday.

The resort has received 289 inches, 24 feet of snow, this season so far and the snowiest month, March, is still to come.  With the new snowfall, and more in the forecast, Purgatory is on track to surpass the snowiest winter in the past 10 years. The 1996-97 season ended with 312 inches of snow; with 280 inches accumulated at the end of February.

Resort officials decided with all the snow, the only thing to do is keep skiing and snowboarding. Therefore, Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort has officially extended its winter season through April 6th. The resort will now be open March 31- April 6th for an additional week of winter play from10 am to 4 pm. Chairs 1, 3 and 8 will operate providing access to the front and backsides of the mountain. Lift tickets are only $40 and season passes are valid during the extended season.
