FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON BLANKETS PURGATORY
Durango, CO – Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort received the first snowstorm of the 07-08 winter season when Mother Nature paid a visit to the Four Corners region of Colorado. Cold temperatures and moisture in the air signaled the first storm was coming into the area last night and locals woke up to 3 inches of snow at mid-mountain today. More snow fell at higher levels, including at the top of Chair 8.
The snow continued falling throughout the day and the forecast is calling for chance of light snow through tomorrow as well. Another storm might bring additional snowfall to the resort over the weekend.
With continued cold temperatures, Purgatory plans to begin snowmaking operations on November 1st. The resort upgraded its fleet this year with more energy efficient machines and equipment, increasing the uphill snowmaking capacity by 50 percent. Therefore, the resort will be able to cover the same area of terrain with the same amount of snow in a faster period of time; resulting in the backside of the mountain opening earlier than ever before.
