BACKSIDE OPENS TOMORROW WITH -- TRAILS

Updated mountain conditions

Durango, CO – The backside of Purgatory Mountain will open tomorrow, with Chair 3 and 14 new trails. Since the first of the year, the resort has received 11 inches of snow, that help from mother nature, combined with ongoing snowmaking efforts have allowed the resort to open the additional terrain on the backside.

With the addition of the backside terrain, the resort is 54 percent open with a total of 6 chairlifts and 43 trails open on packed powder conditions. Beginners have access to 62 percent of green trails including the Columbine Beginner’s Area, while intermediate and advanced skiers will find 52 percent of blue and black trails accessible.

Snowmaking crews will now focus their efforts on opening more of the backside, with hopes to have lift 8 operating my late next week. Attention will also be given to additional terrain on the front side, with a push to open all of the beginner terrain on the mountain including Chair 4 and more intermediate and advanced trails on the front side.
