PURGATORY HOSTS NEXT SNOW SEARCH QUALIFIER

Durango, CO – What better way to start of the New Year than showing off your all around mountain skills? Purgatory is looking for the most well-rounded skiers, snowboarders, telemarkers and adaptive children to compete in the 2007 Next Snow Search Qualifier on January 7th. The competition is open to boys and girls born between 1993 and 1998 and the winner will represent Purgatory at the Next Snow Search finals in Killington, VT later this season.

Purgatory’s qualifier will include freeskiing, small jibs and possibly air. Athletes will be judged on their on-mountain skills as well as their off-slope manners. Prizes will be awarded to all competitors. Registration for the event begins at 9 am at Hoody’s Base Camp. Parents and athletes are required to attend a pre-competition meeting at 11 am at Powderhouse. Competition begins at 11:15 am and parents will need to accompany athletes throughout the competition.

The Sports Illustrated Kids Next Snow Search is the brainchild of local Durangoan Jack Turner, which began in 2003 in an effort to discover the next generation of extreme winter athletes. The season long search is made up of more than 70 qualifiying, including six super-qualifier, events held at resorts across the United States and in Canada. The series will culminate in the championships at Killington from March 2-4, 2007.
