MORE THAN 2 FEET OF SNOW AT PURGATORY MOUNTAIN
Mountain is 99 percent open after huge storm dumps on resort
Durango, CO – Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort has one of the deepest snow bases in the state of Colorado after a huge storm dumped more than 2 feet of snow. With a 47-inch mid-mountain base depth and powder conditions, Purgatory is leading the pack in snowfall totals.
The storm began brewing on Sunday afternoon and dropped 8 inches by Monday morning. The bulk of the storm came Monday night into Tuesday with 17 inches falling in a 24-hour period. Snow continues to fall at the resort and forecasts are calling for an additional 5-9 inches of accumulation today and another 3-6 inches possible overnight and into tomorrow.
The storm came just in time for the opening of Chair 8 on the backside of the mountain. With the substantial snowfall accumulation mountain crews were able to open 83 of 85 trails and 9 of 10 chairlifts in a 24-hour window. Purgatory now features 100 percent of beginner and intermediate terrain open and 95 percent of advanced terrain open.
