PURGATORY SUMMER SEASON OPENS THIS FRIDAY

Daily resort activities offer fun for the whole family

Durango, CO – The summer season at Purgatory Mountain kicks off this Friday, June 15th with daily activities including the Alpine Slide, Miniature Golf, Bungee Trampoline, Climbing Wall and Scenic Chairlift rides with access to mountain biking and hiking trails. With Purgatory’s base area at a cool 8,700 feet, and average summer temperatures around 80 degrees, it’s a great place for family and friends to escape summers heat and take in epic San Juan Mountain views.

Total Adventure Tickets are the best way to enjoy all of Purgatory’s summer activities, with access to unlimited daily activities Another popular summer activity is the FREE guided Naturalist hike. These hikes, lead by San Juan Mountain Association volunteers, introduce guests to plants and animals that call Purgatory Mountain their home. Once a month, SJMA hosts Hike With Llama, an all day excursion which includes a wine and cheese picnic carried by Llama.

New this year guests can enjoy an additional intermediate mountain bikign and hiking trail. 7th Heaven is located just off the top of Chair 4 and features a variety of terrain includes paved roads and single track. Also new this summer, guests will notice the first phase of Purgatory Lodge taking shape in the heart of Purgatory Village. The lodge began going vertical in early June and will continue to rise as the summer season progresses. The first phase of the three phase Purgatory Lodge will be home to upgraded skier services and amenities in the winter, as well as fractional ownership units, a private residence club on the penthouse level and a newly upgraded Purgy's day lodge.

The summer season means the return of annual events to Purgatory Mountain. The Iguana’s will perform live in the 3rdAnnual KSUT Benefit concert on June 30th, and Music in the Mountains Classical Concert Series returns for it’s 21st season July 15- August 5th. The season closes out with the 9th annual San Juan Brewfest on September 1st.
