THIESS NAMED GENERAL MANAGER/COO
Durango, CO - Durango Mountain Resort is pleased to announce that Hank Thiess has accepted the position of General Manager and Chief Operating Officer.
Thiess has been working in the winter resort industry for more than 25 years, starting as an instructor at Keystone Resort. He progressed quickly, including stints as Ski School Director at Alpine Meadows and Vice President of Resort Operations at Keystone. Most recently Thiess served as General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Wisp Resort in Maryland. During his tenure at Wisp, he led the ski area to record visits, drove revenues to new levels, and implemented operational standards that led to higher levels of guest satisfaction.
Thiess is no stranger to Colorado, having spent a bulk of his career in the Rocky Mountains. In addition to Keystone Resort, Thiess also worked at Steamboat Ski Corporation, served as a PSIA Examiner and on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain Region, and graduated from the University of Denver with a Masters in Business Administration.
"We are thrilled to have Hank join our team," says CEO Gary Derck. "We know that his experience, innovative ideas and passion for the industry will help lead Durango Mountain Resort to a new level of success."
"I'm excited to be a part of the Durango Mountain Resort team," said Thiess. "My family and I are looking forward to returning to Colorado and making Durango our home."
Thiess will oversee all aspects of resort operations including mountain, village, lodging, food & beverage and sales & marketing. He will begin full time in early September. The Thiess family, including wife Mary Ann and two daughters, are in the process of selecting a home and moving to the Durango area.
