FIRST BIG STORM OF 2007 HITS PURGATORY
Storm drops 7 inches on the resort in just 9 hours
Durango, CO – The New Year is off to a bang at Purgatory Mountain, with the first storm of 2007 dropping 7 inches in a 9-hour period. The storm rolled into the area early Friday morning and began dumping white flakes on the resort around 6 am.
Forecasts were calling for up to 7 inches of accumulation and with the storm lightly tapering off at 3 pm, predictions were right on the mark. The snow comes just two weeks after a huge storm dropped 33 inches in just three days, leaving the resort with 109 inches of snowfall for the season to date. Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort has 100 percent of its beginner and intermediate trails open and 96 percent of advanced trails open, with a 40 inch mid-mountain base depth and powder conditions. All 10 chairlifts are running, including the magic carpet for beginners.
The snow comes as the resort prepares for a busy January with events including the Safety Awareness Poster contest running through January 13th, Telemark clinics on January 7th and 21st and local race series beginning at the end of the month. More information on all events and activities planned for the season can be found online at www.durangomountainresort.com. The website also features up-to-date snow information and weather forecasts.
