Rules … because we have to have rules:
1. The contest is open to children between the ages 6 and 18 (dependent children of DMR employees are not eligible).

4. Any form of poetry is acceptable. There is no minimum/maximum with regard to poem length except that the poem must be limited to and fit onto one side of one piece of paper.
5. The poem must be the child’s original work and must be written using the theme of “FRIENDS AND FLAKES.”
6. The poet’s first and last name, age, birth date, and telephone number should appear on the back side of the sheet of paper (not on the same side as the poem). A telephone number is necessary so the winner can be notified.
7. The entrant is free to decorate his/her poem. Any decoration must be done by hand (i.e., not using any manufactured stencils, cut-outs, computer art, etc.). Any decorated poem using non-original art/decoration will be disqualified.
8. The minimum paper size for poem submissions is 8.5” x 11” - there is no maximum size. Any poem submitted on paper smaller than 8.5” x 11” will be disqualified. Any type of paper may be used (bond, construction, notebook, etc.) and any medium may be used (i.e., pencil, pen, colored pencil, marker, paint, etc) except as noted in #9 below.
9. The poem must be in the entrant’s own hand (i.e., not typed and not printed/written by Mom/Dad or another adult).
10. The poems will be judged on the following criteria: a) focus on the theme; b) creativity and originality; and c) visual presentation. The decision of the judges is final.
11. The judges will be a group of DMR employees who have volunteered their time.

14. If a winning child is already a passholder, a reimbursement of the amount paid for the pass will be given.
