Purgatory to us is the greatest place on earth. We get to live here, ski and ride here and we get to work here. Purgatory and the surrounding area has something fun to do every day for every member of the family. For winter sports we have skiing, riding, sleigh rides, ice climbing, tubing, snowshoeing...we could go on and on. In the summer, same deal, except then our beautiful snowy playground becomes vibrant green, and Purgatory has everything from our brand new Purgatory Plunge Zipline, races, Alpine Slide and Music in the Mountains. We love it here, and we know you will as well.

Durango Mountain Resort is offering another way to have fun with the whole family! This year’s new attraction, Water Runners, will thrill all ages as you safely float, walk, run and roll on the surface of the water without ever getting wet. Step inside a transparent bubble, close the air-tight zipper and away you go – walking, running and jumping on water – an exciting and fun experience. Watching friends and family navigate the bubble is a blast too.
Sky Hike Adventure - Family Ropes Course
Don’t miss another new adventure, the family ropes course, designed specifically for Durango Mountain Resort. Use your climbing instincts and challenge yourself with this fun, family-friendly obstacle course. Climb over net bridges, wooden beams, rope ladders and more. You’re strapped into a harness so it is completely safe to use and fun to master!

Purgatory Plunge Zipline!
This exhilarating, attraction debuted in 2011 and provides a unique perspective of the awe-inspiring San Juan Mountains as you glide 420 feet at speeds up to 35 mph! The adventure starts at the top of the Purgatory Village Tower, the tallest structure in the Durango area, and stretches over Purgatory Beach. Featuring two parallel lines, race your friends or family members for an exciting thrill ride.
Mountain Bike Trails and Rentals
Home of the first World Mountain Bike Championships in 1990, Purgatory has miles of trails for all ability levels, accessible from the base area or via chair lift. Pick up a trail map that details 10 distinct rides for a variety of skills and determine your course for fun and adventure. Experience the natural beauty of the area with mixed spruce and aspen forests, wildlife and grass and wildflower meadows as you traverse the mountainside.
For those who seek more adventurous rides, test your “flow” riding skills on the pump track or time yourself on our mountain bike short track. The Durango Devo Coca-Cola Bike Park is conveniently located in the base area and is a source of great fun for participants and spectators alike.
Purgatory Sports offers adults and children top-of-the-line mountain bike rentals and provides expert service and friendly advice on trails for an epic adventure or a scenic cruise.
Diggler Mountain Scooters
Designed to tackle terrain like a mountain bike and carve turns like a skateboard, the “Original Mountain Scooter” takes fun and adventure to a whole new level! With the long wheel base and board carve-ability, these scooters handle as well as bikes, can go nearly as fast, and are easy for first-timers. Don't miss the special Diggler Trail that starts at the top of the Twilight Lift. Diggler Scooter rentals are available at Purgatory Sports.
Feel the wind in your hair as you speed down the track, or take a leisurely ride and enjoy the views. Durango Mountain Resort’s Alpine Slide is fun for the whole family. The chairlift carries riders up the mountain for a descent of more than half a mile. Each sled has a control stick to regulate speed as you cruise side-by-side on adjacent tracks. See who makes it to the bottom first!
The 18-hole miniature golf course is fun for golfers of all ages. Tucked along the mountainside, challenge family and friends on this fun course that features unique obstacles and spectacular scenery. Mother Nature provides the incredible backdrop; we supply the ball and putter; you bring the stroke.
Kids of all ages will enjoy trying out their “cowboy” skills on the mechanical bull. This manned and motorized bucking bull provides laughter and fun as family and friends try their hand at “taming” the bull.
Combine exercise and fun as you scale the 24-foot wall in the Plaza. Kids of all ages have fun mastering the wall as they show off their climbing abilities.
Defy gravity and feel the wind whip through your hair as you jump and flip high above the Plaza on the Bungee Trampoline. Those who are young or simply young at heart love this exhilarating, vertical experience.
Total Adventure Ticket
Take advantage of the Total Adventure Ticket for hours of fun on the Alpine Slide, scenic chairlift, mountain bike uplift and trails, miniature golf, and sessions on the climbing wall, mechanical bull, bungee trampoline, Water Runners and Sky Hike Ropes Course. The Total Adventure Ticket can be purchased for $45 at the Ticket Office, providing hours of entertainment and fun.
Disc Golf Course
Our 9-hole Disc Golf Course starts at the top of the Graduate Lift (Chair 7) and winds its way around a scenic loop. The course features a mixture of distances, elevation changes, trees, open spaces and water hazards. Fun for the entire family. A typical round can take from 45-90 minutes to complete. Stop by Purgatory Sports in the Village Plaza for a map of the course and the rules of the game. Play is free with your own discs or discs can be rented at Purgatory Sports.
Durango Mining Company
Colorado’s rich mining history comes alive at Durango Mountain Resort! Experience the old west and pan for gold, gemstones and other minerals in the Plaza, and keep what is found as a fun souvenir.
Guided Naturalist Hikes
Guided naturalist hikes are a great way to learn about the ecosystems, geology, plants, wildlife and public lands around the area at Durango Mountain Resort. The San Juan Mountains Association offers free guided hikes throughout the summer.
Explore the backcountry on horseback! Experienced wranglers will guide you through the beautiful San Juan National Forest and Cascade Canyon. One-hour, two-hour, half-day, and all day rides are available. Try the Sunset Dinner Ride, a two-hour ride followed by delicious Colorado steaks or chicken grilled over an open campfire. Located across from DMR on U.S. Hwy. 550, Buck’s Livery offers mounted mountain adventures for all ages and experience levels.
Camp Just for Kids
Purgatory Adventure Camp for Kids (PACK) is an exciting day camp for children ages 5-12 who love the outdoors. For just a day or for the entire summer, your child will make new friends and explore new activities at Durango Mountain Resort, including hiking, rock climbing, a ropes course, Disc Golf, the Alpine Slide and much more! All activities are supervised by trained staff.
Climbing and Mountaineering
Kling Mountain Guides (KMG) provides climbing, mountaineering and rock climbing services for individuals of all ages and abilities. From half-day family fun trips to multi-day instructional clinics and courses, Durango has rock climbing for everyone! Whether you have never been rock climbing before or you are an expert looking for some advanced rock rescue techniques, experienced instructors and guides at KMG can take you there. Kling Mountain Guides partners with the Durango Rafting Company to offer a Rock ‘N Raft adventure, consisting of a two-hour raft trip and a four-hour rock climbing excursion! Float the Animas River through the heart of Durango with professional raft guides who specialize in family rafting trips. Then switch from boats to ropes to scale the sandstone cliffs overlooking Durango and the beautiful Animas Valley with a professional and experienced mountain guide who will teach you the basics of rock climbing.
Refresh and Revive!
Stop by Altitude O2 Oxygen Bar in the Plaza and see what everyone is raving about! Experience the benefits of 95% pure oxygen that will leave you feeling alert, refreshed and full of energy. Trimble Spa at Durango Mountain Club
Take time to relax, rejuvenate and revive your body and soul! Located in Purgatory Lodge, the Trimble Spa at Durango Mountain Club provides therapeutic massage and body treatments. Certified massage therapists are available on-site from noon-8 pm Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and can be booked on other days with 24-hour phone reservations. In-room service is also available for 60- and 90-minute massages. An outdoor hot tub and heated pool are just around the corner from the massage rooms, and locker rooms with showers are conveniently located nearby.
