Resort Policies

1. Amendment 64:    While Colorado recently passed Amendment 64, which allows people 21 and older to possess up to an ounce of marijuana, the amendment specifically bans public consumption of marijuana.  All areas at Durango Mountain Resort are considered to be public places; therefore, consumption of marijuana is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, lift lines, chairlifts, ski trails, in the woods, in parking lots, on plazas, patios, decks, balconies and other open spaces.  Smoking, whether it is tobacco or marijuana, is prohibited inside buildings, including lodging units, lobbies, restaurants, shops, lounges, hallways, restrooms, etc. Our primary objective is to help educate our guests regarding this law and how it governs their behavior at Durango Mountain Resort.

2. Uphill Traffic:  Uphill access through the ski area is prohibited during the operating season (November through April).  Access to public lands outside of the ski area boundary is permitted - take the Forest Service Road #578 to the snowmobile bypass.

3.  Lodging:

a.  Winter Season Lodging (November 1 through April 30):

Non-Holiday:  A one night deposit is due at the time of booking with the remaining amount due forty-five days prior to arrival.  If canceled prior to forty-five days of arrival, you forfeit the amount equal to one night of lodging.  If canceled inside of forty-five days, you forfeit the amount equal to your entire stay.

Holiday:   A two night deposit is due at the time of booking with the remaining amount due sixty days prior to arrival.  If canceled prior to sixty days of arrival, you forfeit the amount equal to two nights of lodging.  If canceled inside of sixty days of arrival, you forfeit the amount equal to your entire stay.

b.  Summer Season Lodging (May 1 through October 30):

Non-Holiday:  A one night deposit is due at the time of booking and final payment is due upon arrival.  If canceled prior to twenty-four hours of arrival, there is no forfeiture.  If canceled inside twenty-four hours of arrival, you will forfeit the amount equal to one night of lodging.

Holiday:   A two night deposit is due at the time of booking with the remaining amount due sixty days prior to arrival.  If canceled prior to sixty days of arrival, you will forfeit the amount equal to two nights of lodging.  If canceled inside of sixty days of arrival, you will forfeit the amount equal to the entire stay.

c.  Changes:  Any changes made to a reservation may affect the total package price.  All changes are subject to availability.  Changing lodging properties is considered a cancellation and all cancellation policies apply.  No changes may be made within thirty days of arrival.

d.  Final Payment:  When final payment is taken whether Winter or Summer (if the credit card declines) a call will be placed to the number on file and an email will be sent to the email address on file.  If a return call or email is not received within 48 hours, the reservation will be released and any deposit made will be forfeited.  If the resort is contacted and the reservation/unit is still available (prior to arrival date) it will be reinstated if full payment can be made.

e.  Trip Protection:  Trip protection is available and the price is based on 10% of the total reservation value prior to tax.  With the purchase of this protection, you may receive a full refund (minus the cost of the protection), for specific reasons only for cancellations up to the day of your arrival.

Covered:  Unforeseeable serious injury or death of the insured, a traveling companion or family member; weather conditions causing a delay of twenty-four or more hours or cancellation of travel; home being made uninhabitable by fire, flood, vandalism, burglary, or natural disaster; being subpoenaed or required to serve jury duty; being hijacked or quarantined.  Documentation of proof will be required – an actual examination by the physician who advises the cancellation must take place before the cancellation is made.  Notification to the appropriate travel supplier is required.

Not Covered:  Carrier caused delays such as mechanical difficulties, cancellation or default by airline or tour operator; change in plans (“I don’t want to go”) normal pregnancy or childbirth, financial, business, or contractual obligations (“My boss changed my vacation”, “I can’t afford to go” etc.); any government regulation or prohibition; war, civil disorder, nuclear reaction or contamination; pre-existing medical condition shows within sixty days of arrival.

4.  Lift Tickets:  All lift ticket products are non-transferable and non-refundable.  Advance and on-line ticket purchases require a credit card charge to be processed to secure the reservation.

5.  Season Passes:  All season pass products are non-transferable and non-refundable unless the passholder purchases season pass insurance offered by our third party season pass insurance provider, Travel Guard.  If Travel Guard season pass insurance is purchased, then refunds are subject to Travel Guard’s policies and procedures (as provided by Travel Guard).  In addition, a pass may be confiscated with no re-issue if, in the sole judgment of DMR, it is used in a fraudulent manner.  Re-issued passes may be subject to a replacement fee.  The passholder acknowledges the affirmative duty to immediately notify the ski area operator and appropriate authorities if the pass is lost or stolen.  Failure to notify the ski area of a stolen or lost pass may result in loss of pass privileges.

6.  Rental Equipment, Ski School and Child Care:  Reservations are strongly recommended.  Advance and on-line reservations require a credit card charge to be processed to secure the reservation.  A $5 reservation fee is applied per transaction.  Reservations must be canceled at least forty-eight hours in advance of the start of the reservation period to qualify for a refund.  Cancellations or changes within forty-eight hours of the start of the reservation period will be required to pay a $50 cancellation fee and forfeit the reservation fee.  Any cancellations or changes made the same day of the reservation, or any no calls / no shows will be charged one full day and the remainder of the reservation is subject to cancellation.  All cancellations and changes must be made by calling our rental shop, ski school reservation desk and/or child care center directly for each reservation or advance booking that was made.  No refunds will be given due to weather, unused days, illness, or snow conditions.

7.  Helmet Policy:  Children age 14 and younger must wear a winter sport protective helmet while participating in ski school and snowboard school and/or child care outdoor programs.  In addition, children over the age of 14 who participate in designated children’s classes or programs must wear a helmet.  For your convenience, rental helmets are available at our children’s ski and snowboard school locations.  While helmets may reduce or mitigate the severity of some head injuries, their use does not guarantee safety and will not prevent certain injuries.  The resort reminds you that every winter sport participant shares responsibility for his/her safety and for that of others using the ski area facilities.  Always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements of risk in skiing and snowboarding that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce.  Know your ability level and stay within it.  Become familiar with and observe “Your Responsibility Code” and share with other skiers/ riders the responsibility for a great experience.

8.  Transportation:  Advance reservations are strongly recommended and require a credit card charge to be processed to secure the reservation.  Reservations must be canceled at least twenty-four hours in advance of the scheduled start of the trip to qualify for a refund.  Cancellations within twenty-four hours and no calls / no shows will be charged the full transportation charge.

9.  Wedding/Event, Wholesale Group Policies:
